Boogie Nights
First PTA film to prepare for One Battle After Another! Thought this was great, and then found out he was only 27 when he directed it which is actually insane. I’d be hard pressed to find a movie that has so such identity and life. Everything from the color to the sound to the costumes fit seamlessly together. The cast is unreal too.
Only minor critiques are that it seemed to intentionally shy away from discussions about race & some of the gender dynamics of the porn industry in the 1970s. Very possible that these were present, just a little more subtle. However, i think they are important enough conversations to not require subtly. Also, contrary to most watchers, it definitely felt like a 2.5 hour movie. A fun 2.5 hours though!
