Heat
Heat is the gold standard heist movie. I'm far from saying they don't make them like they used to because I think there are still some great heist movies coming out. Crime 101 came out this year and I loved it. The problem with a lot of more modern heist movies are that they all copy one classic or another. Heat is one of those classics for good reason.
The characters are the stars of the show. Pacino and Robert are the best part and their characters too. The detectives cat and mouse game as his life falls apart is fascinating. The master thief is just cool. He plays the alone but not lonely role perfectly and when he finds romance it is sweet. Val Kilmer is awesome too. His character is a fun wildcard trying to be better.
Heat brings the cinematic duo of Al Pacino and Robert DeNero. They are fantastic in Heat. The master criminal played by Robert and the obsessed cop played by Pacino. Their scenes especially if they are together are the best part of the movie. The coffee and dreams scene is just chefs kiss. That ending shot brings everything together too in a beautiful way. They make this movie the classic it is.
The rest of the cast are great too. Val Kilmer (RIP) brings an exciting and fun performance. It's always great to see Danny Trejo and he is cool here. Ashley Judd is very good too. All the rest of the cast bring their A game. It's a fully tacked cast that are all amazing.
The direction by Michael Mann is top Notch. The city of LA feels like a character itself. The heists feel raw and professional at the same time. Even the small moments like the coffee and dreams conversation. It's a simple shot that elevates the movie to a 5 star alone. Mann is one of my favorite directors and Heat proves that.
The heists are great here. What I love about them is that they are raw and professional. My favorite heist is definitely the bank job. It shows their skill and the chaotic aftermath excellently.
The score is awesome too. All through the movie it elevates every scene whether it's romantic or exciting.
I got to see this in a big cinema too so the visuals and score are even better. Heat is a movie I slept on a long time. I don't k own why but yeah such is life. Anyway it's amazing and I had a blast.
