Spirited Away

A bit of Alice in Wonderland, a dash of The Wizard of Oz but still wholly original.  Blown completely away!!! The scenes with the sea and the sky in the last 30 minutes are breathtaking.  And the score while Chihiro and No-Face are riding the train to Swamp Bottom literally moved me to tears.  So much of the movie is frenetic and exciting and then everything pauses…and it’s all these amazing images and beautiful music.   I also really loved the sound design for the little characters…their squeaks and squawks and squishes and squashes.  They looked cool, of course, but those sounds really added to their characters.   I can’t wait to watch this with my son some day!! 2/24 in my quest to watch all of the “NYT Top 100 Movies” I haven’t seen.
