This fucking movie!
Going into this film I was worried I was going to get style over substance, especially seen as I saw complaints about it’s screenplay nomination - how wrong was I!
First things first, the lack of heavy dialogue scenes really did create a feel of the necessary was spoken & those small glimpses of conversation that was held between other troops then became like the gold dust to hold onto for these characters!
After seeing the film I’m very surprised that both George MacKay & Dean-Charles Chapman aren’t in the performance categories conversation! Both of them made me cry (which if you know me rarely happens during films cause I’m a heartless bastard) & played two brilliantly written characters to their potential!
Now let’s be honest, onto what made this film so fantastically immersive, Rodger Bloody Deakins! The majority of frames in this film looked like a painting! Visually I don’t think there was a moment I disliked! The whole film was watching the best at their craft be creative and it was a privilege to see it on the big screen!
I genuinely think that we will look back at this film the way we look back at Saving Private Ryan! Fair play Sam Mendes, I am behind whatever project you do next!
