Poor Things
wow wow wow. this is one of the best movies i have ever seen. yorgos you have done it again. the performances from emma stone and mark ruffalo were PHENOMENAL. i loved this portrayal of self discovery and the emotions it evokes. there were moments where i was laughing, crying, feeling enraged, and in some instances perturbed. people have said this film lacks depth but i could not disagree more. it explores sexual freedom, philosophical thinking, unfiltered perspective, and the challenging of traditional ideas of womanhood. it’s fascinating to see how bella’s exploration shapes her identity. she experiences control, freedom, suffering, shame, and love. not to mention the visuals in this film were ASTOUNDING. i love yorgos ability to create humor and horror with visuals alone. i also enjoyed seeing the frankenstein inspiration but it still felt entirely unique. overall, i am overly pleased with this film and cannot wait to rewatch constantly.
