Brokeback Mountain
I’ve been wanting to watch this movie for ages, I’ve had the dvd for a long time but just haven’t had the time to get into it but i finally decided that I would sit down and watch it and it was phenomenal. I was expecting to like it but i absolutely loved it, I am not an insanely big romance fan but I did not take my eyes of the screen at all. The soundtrack was amazing, I am a huge fan of cowboys, technically named after one and I loved the red dead redemption games, this captured it all amazingly, the cinematography, the shots of nature, it was genuinely so beautiful. I want to visit where it was filled so badly now. The movie was full of so many great actors but I love Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger and this was amazing. The start was so like tense and like awkward but liked the joke about Ennis parents stopping at his first name. The contrast between the attitudes of the characters and the up bringing was amazing, Jack was a wild bull rider while Ennis was a quiet working man. I love how quiet Ennis was and how Jack brought his life out of him and they genuinely gradually got along. I loved the scene of him shooting the moose. I loved the whole atmosphere of them out together and working and the little details which show the difference in their character like how Ennis carried the lamb in a bag off his horse while Jack had it out in front of him. Showing Ennis calmer energy in comparison to Jacks wild energy. I found it quite sweet when Ennis opened up and talked to Jack and he responded with “that’s the most you’ve spoke in the last two weeks” or something. From the very start, I feel like they both genuinely admired each other. The night where they were drunk and Ennis was going to just sleep outside but it got too cold so Jack let him in was lovely and I did not expect Jack to wrap Ennis around him but more importantly I thought they were just gonna kiss but they freaked it, no protection, no prep, just spit and a dream. I loved how animalistic they were, it felt more real I feel. They were like being passionate. I was quite sad when Ennis just rode away afterwards and then later said it was a one time thing. I feel like throughout the whole story Jack was truly in love and wanted a life together and so did Ennis but he knew what would’ve happened. I loved their kiss even though it was rough and then them fighting and jack trying to comfort Ennis but getting punched. It really showed how Ennis couldn’t accept the love because he was scared. Ennis getting married made me genuinely sick and then 4 years passing without them seeing each other, heart breaking. The post card also made me sick a bit though as Ennis had built this life with his wife and was he going to throw it away? Another thing I noticed was during sex with his wife, he turned off the light and rolled her over, he didn’t want to see her or face her, probably thinking of Jack instead. Them meeting was horrible, not because they met but because of his wife seeing, my mouth hit the floor and I felt sick. I love them, Jack and Ennis but man, that poor woman. Devoted to her husband for 4 years, two kids and he’s there kissing a man and she can’t do anything because if she tells on him, he’s dead. Them meeting up every few months was sweet but so sad. I loved how Jack went back to bull riding and met Anne Hathaways character. She is so pretty as a cowgirl. Did not expect to see boobies honestly. Just as time progressed and they got deep into their ‘fake’ lives. It was really sad because they just were both living lies and everytime Jack kept saying about how they should just escape and live together on a ranch. Ennis telling the story about what happened to the two men was so so sad, it shows what he worries about. Ennis wife confronting him about meeting with Jack was so scary and so tense and he grabbed her and then ran off and got beat up by a random dude because he wanted to pick a fight. Then the divorce and Jack thinking everything’s gonna be okay now, and Ennis shutting him down and him crying on his way home and how it kinda reminded me of when Jack first left Ennis and he went to the wall and cried and punched and shouted at a guy. It was so sad, I feel like Ennis really struggled with accepting who he was and what he wanted. Jack screaming at his father in law was a tense scene too. Anne Hathaway shouldn’t of went blond tho. Then the last meeting with Jack saying two of the most HEARTWRENCHING LINES “I wish I knew how to quit you” and “sometimes I miss you so much, I can’t hardly stand it.” Also the line from Ennis which was “if you can’t fix it Jack, you gotta stand it”. One of the hardest thing about this movie is how they both had different ideals, Jack wanted to be with him always and Ennis was too scared too commit and of course the most popular scene “BUT ALL WE GOT NOW.. IS BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN” and that scene being paralleled with an earlier scene of Ennis leaving hurt so badly and also that being their last meeting. Ennis going into the post office and seeing a letter which just had “DECEASED” stamped on it actually shocked me, I sat up and gasped. Him talking to Anne Hathaway on the phone and her telling him what happened but in his mind he was thinking that he got killed for being queer. Then him visiting his parents house and finding the jacket and smelling it, that hurt me but the ending with it showing the jacket in his trailer with the picture of brokeback actually made me sob, I loved them bro and I can’t believe it. I am also so glad he is going to his daughters wedding. Absolutely amazing film, I loved it so much and it made me cry a lot. “I wish I knew how to quit you”
