Perfect BlueJesse9.1· March 30, 2025Followokay this has to be one of the MOST confusing films I’ve ever seen. Imma list off what I thought the story was or the general meaning was and then I’ll probably google the actual one. First off, I thought it was maybe gonna be showing how para social relationships are through that creepy dude cuz he was addicted to Mima and that kinda was part of the plot but not entirely. I also thought it might’ve been about how people in the public eye, specifically those of musicians, are seen to have one specific image which people grow to love and for Mima, it was this cutesy delicate perfect girl and then her becoming an actor tainted her, which kinda was brought up a few times. Also the reflection or the “true Mima” (Im gonna refer to her as TM) the way she moved was so angelic and like perfect which really juxtaposed how Mima chased after her, for example when TM stepped in the puddle it was with like the tip of her foot and she barely made a ripple but when Mima stepped in it, she splashed everywhere. This kinda shows to me how pop idols are viewed as how they are on stage and for them to be different or try different things is viewed to be wrong and tainting their image. TM also was constantly happy and perfect while Mima was genuinely human. I also thought that the whole film was a dream or something like that, where Mima wanted to be something else and she wanted to become an actor and stuff but like we kinda see her thought process of how that would’ve went, the fears of it with the rape scene and being picture naked but that didn’t really make sense with the movie I also thought that maybe Mima was confusing reality and fiction which did happen but I thought that maybe everything which we were seeing was actually the tv show and then what we were told to be the Tv show was actually reality. I’m not sure. I don’t really understand what happened with Rumi, I know she clearly was wrong mentally as we can see that in the final scene but why did Mima see her to be TM. My assumption is that Rumi got jealous of what was happening with Mima and saw her tainting the image of Mima the pop-idol and decided to step in. She also killed anyone who stood in her way. Not sure. I’m gonna Google. Okay Google says “Perfect Blue is a fantasy about perceived realities in conflict with each other—where no reality seems quite right because no reality is quite right. Everything becomes clearer when we actively question the characters' assumptions about reality and fantasy” which doesn’t help my understanding. But I think that it’s kinda about how Mima can’t control her life and her life is split between two paths, the childish pop idol and the more adult actor. Apparently there is also colour symbolism with red showing how her past is trying to bring her back into her own ways and blue symbolising how she isnt quite in control as blue is used quite conservatively while red is in a lot scenes. This does make sense. I feel like it’s one of those films which make you think, there’s a definite ending but it’s up to interpretation. Not sure, imma talk about the actual film now. Really enjoyable film to watch, the animation made me think of Evangelion and there were some similar sound effects. I loved the scenes where it kinda transitioned between like Mima in the public eye and her at home, it was very good, I’m a big fan of those type of transitions. I felt so bad for Mima, I will admit I did cry a few times throughout this film, it was quite a difficult film at parts, especially that rape scene and watching Mima get photographed naked. Seeing her naked felt so wrong and I didn’t enjoy it. Such an interesting film, there were some parts which were genuinely scary and unnerving, that security guard creep dude was so uncomfortable. Also weird thing is that the two weirdest characters in the film had eyes which were far apart, I don’t know why that is, probably just a coincidence. I love Mima, I felt so bad for her, she was so sweet and she just wanted to feed her fishies. I feel like this is the type of film which I gotta watch a few times to really understand. Even though I didn’t really get it, I still enjoyed it and I got the basic premise and it got me thinking which I liked. “no, im the real thing. 😁”CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
