Saw X
I DONT EVEN CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, THIS WAS THE BEST FILM. IM SO HAPPY THIS WAS ACTUALLY GOOD.
The opening was beautiful, weird to humanise John Jigsaw but honestly it worked and I felt so bad for him. He’s like a little grandpa and I just wanted to give him a hug. Finally in a saw film, we get a good backstory. I really enjoyed John being the main character for once and learning about him. Very beautifully shot too. I knew it was Mexico because it was yellow.
I’m actually giddy, this was so good. It really explained everything and gave reasoning and developed the characters. Something I felt like was missing in the saw films was actual justification for why the characters were in the traps, a lot of the time it’s only said in the tape recording and they are only there for a kill rather than for you to care about them at all. This film developed the characters before you even knew they were gonna be in the traps, let us know as much a John knew and it really made it so much more tense and better.
I felt like some characters who were put in traps or tested just didn’t deserve it, like Rigg or Jeff but bro Cecilia deserved it so much and she kept making herself deserve it more and more. I’ve never rooted for John so hard. He was so sweet in this film, like he was such a little grandpa. Of course, his morals are flawed but Cecilia genuinely deserved it.
The traps were fantastic. A lot of other films made the traps to look cool or gorey but this one actually made it linked to each character. They were so graphic like that Mateo having to cut into his own head. Also I actually remember the characters names cuz they made them memorable and developed.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Amanda but this film did her so much justice with her development but definitely not with her haircut.. It made her likeable and really showed her relationship with John and when they cried, I crud and we all crode. The development of both John and Amanda was fantastic and I really liked it.
This film also felt like a saw film, the atmosphere and the colouring. I think in the more modern films, they lost the grungy, green, gross look to the saw films but this was way better. I’m genuinely so happy with this film.
Cecilia trying to kill Carlos was so horrible. I really enjoyed the twist though and also John learning the word pull in the first half when he first met Carlos and being able to use it in the trap was so cool. Carlos is THE GOAT, he was selfless and wanted to make sure John was okay. Genuinely great kid.
The Twist of them going for the money being the real trap was somewhat predictable but I didn’t expect it to save John and Carlos, I kinda was worried that one was gonna die. So I was lowkey stressed. Cecilia should’ve died but I get it’s apart of Johns rules.
The ending of them walking out into the sun was beautiful and the post credit scene with Hoffman was sick. He looked like Vincent from Pulp Fiction.
I think I’m definitely ignoring plot holes and the faults of this film because I feel like the peaks are FAR better than the lows. Genuinely so enjoyable and I really liked John being the main character. It felt like the director really cared about the source material.
but like how is John going to explain why him and Carlos are drenched in blood to his Father..
“You are a warrior, my boy. A warrior“
