Thunderbolts*Jesse9.1· May 19, 2025Followoh my, Florence Pugh, punch me to death. This film was fantastic, I’m not the biggest marvel fan and even at that I’d say I was an occasional enjoyer rather than fan. I feel like superhero films often lack real character and are often predictable. The majority boiling down to bad guy bad for a bad reason and good guy good and fights for good and wins, yay! Thunderbolts* is not that, it is something way sexier. I’ve always enjoyed characters with flaws because you can connect with them on a deeper level as they aren’t some perfect idol, they feel more real. This movie has a full cast of real people with visible flaws and they are shown to be genuinely trying to change. I feel like it’s safe to say that Yelena was the main character in this film and I’m so happy she was. I absolutely loved her character in Black Widow and she did have some depth but I feel like she acted as a comic relief character on occasion. (this isn’t a complaint, she was funny) In this film they really expanded on her and showed her to be more flawed and imperfect yet through all of it, she still fought to be the best version of herself. The avengers shouldn’t be perfect. I appreciate how Marvel showed genuine care with how they made these characters. Also just to make clear, Im basing all my point off either this film or the others I’ve seen so I may be wrong in what I’m saying. There was definitely a big focus on mental health in this film though and it wasn’t obvious, like they didn’t force it to be about mental health but it was. Bob was such an interesting character and I think he embodies the main focus of mental health. He is just some guy, he wanted help and he was used. From what I caught, Bob holds three people. Robert, Sentry and The Void. Each one has a very differing atmosphere. Bob as Bob is himself, he is flawed and suffers from mental health issues but he’s still just a dude. Sentry is what Bob wishes to be, a perfect person in every form, a god of sorts and then you have the void who is practically evil incarnate. It’s kinda interesting because he is good, evil and neutral in one and from what I picked up he cannot be sentry without being the void. You can see it as even if you are completely good, perfect in every way, it won’t last. Any good bob would do as sentry would be instantly undone with the void. The void is the trauma Bob holds, sentry is a mask he hides behind. It can also be seen as a metaphor for even if you do good, your past with still be there. If someone does 100 good things and one bad thing, the bad thing will be the focus. Im prolly overthinking this but it’s such an interesting concept. I also really like the opening with them in the vault, it was so cool to see how they all had each other as a target and they kept fighting who they had while avoiding who was trying to get them. Marvel choreographs fights so well and makes them so interesting, but bro taskmaster was robbed so hard, such a cool concept for a character and they died to a bullet to the head so annoying, I kinda wanted some redemption for her but as Yelena said she killed people and now she got killed. I suppose it just shows the line of work they were in. Ghost has such a cool power, felt like she was the least developed out of all the characters, from my very limited knowledge.. I think she only turns up as a villain in the second ant man film which means they should’ve expanded on her. I HAVE TO ADDRESS THE AURA FARMING. Bucky is an insane aura farmer like actually crazy. He aura farmed on his motorbike, he Aura farmed with deflecting that van and even in the fight against Sentry, he tried to aura farm even though he was getting his cheeks handed to him. I will say I think Bucky is the one I have the least knowledge on as I haven’t seen anything else he has been in.. but he was cool. I LOVE THE RED GUARDIAN, HE IS SO COOL AND FUNNY. He is great, genuinely so great and oh my, was he so funny. I loved him. I also loved how they did his relationship with Yelena, especially when he was apologising for never showing up for a year, he explained himself in such a dad way but it showed he genuinely cared, i loved their relationship. He is such a great father. I was actually so insanely shocked when he saved that girl and she turned to a shadow, bro that was HORRIBLE AND THEN YELENA GETS TURNED INTO A SHADOW. I almost sobbed. His reaction to her was so sad. I loved how they developed slowly as a team and I really liked the scene of them pushing the big piece of debris together, even though.. the red guardian did flip a metal trailer very easily in the black widow film… and bro definitely could’ve done it by himself.. my goat.. it was a lovely scene though. I liked seeing them work together, it gave me shivers. I like them. The ending was very good too, it wasn’t even bad guy loses as there wasn’t really a bad guy, apart from Valentina, I wanted to see her die so badly. It was the people doing good to help others. There wasn’t distinct good or bad. I liked it. It broke the usual form of a super hero film and I liked it. I’ve definitely missed a few things that I wanted to talk about but I forgor.. oh wait, I remember an important point. FLORENCE PUGH WAS SO HOT IN THIS FILM AUGHH. I CANT EVEN.fantastic film, really enjoyed. Gotta watch other films, my expectations have been raised.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
