Creed
Creed is the Rocky story, but this time told from the perspective of a young black man. In many ways it was both Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan's story. They were trying to prove something to the world. That they really were here for a reason. Rocky appears in it, sure. But it isn't about him. He's a supporting role to Adonis Creed's story. And what an incredible story it is. This is a movie that builds its hero up through the music. The Rocky theme is only used once, but it is at a crucial moment, and the film, and Creed himself, earn that moment. No matter how many times I watch that scene, I still get hype. The first time I saw it I actually let out an audible "WOO" when it happened, making my aunt think I was crazy. But when I watched it with my mom, she did it too. Because to Rocky fans, it means something deep. It speaks to the perseverance, the triumph of man through unthinkable odds. Creed is the perfect continuation of the Rocky story, passing it on to the next generation.
