The Master

Still one of the weirder films I can ever recall seeing and I’ve seen a few. The craftsmanship from not only P.T. Anderson but every single person involved is remarkable with this, is the case with everything I’ve seen from him but this takes an extra level of commitment to see this vision. Some of the strangest and most convincing chemistry I’ve ever seen two people share on screen with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. After a rewatch and plenty of searching I still think there is endless debate to be had on what this all means, probably the most confounding work I’ve seen from him but it’s so endlessly fascinating it’s had me thinking about it consistently. This falls into one the category that I think is pure genius while not really seeing myself being able to ever fully connect or understand this. Just the idea of writing this script, reading it over and thinking that you know exactly how to articulate something so oddly specific, familiar in everything but alienating in spite of.
