Was looking for a 90s drama/action and this movie scratched that itch perfectly. It also gives me another reason to shit on Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, which is just a shitty rip of Red October.

First of all, go watch this. And then, if you haven’t seen it, go watch Fight Club. Now, for the customary ramble. Between this and Perfect Blue, been on a bit of an unreliable narrative streak. It’s also funny watching an early Nolan movie and seing a first iteration of the themes and storytelling tools that appear in his later movies. Questioning the trustworthiness of our senses, temporal non-linearity (bi-directional chronology even!). This movie does such a good job at exploring the different dimensions of what it means not to be able to make new memories. It makes you, as a viewer, feel like you understand what’s happening, and then slowly but surely dissolves that notion, leaving you just as clueless as Leonard. Guy Pearce was awesome in this and nice of the cast of the Matrix to join (Joe Pantoliano & Carrie Anne Moss were also great). Loved the soundtrack too. It was moody, mysterious, but then light at times, intensifying the feeling of ping ponging between hope and despair.

Finally got around to seeing this. @Dhruv Patel did the redux with me. Was a super fun watch that matched the hype level. Like a horrifying version of that chocolate touch story. They did such a good job of making us extremely uncomfortable as Nikki’s behavior gets more and more extreme. This sh*t has me checking the corners of my room and I will never trust a lunch box sando again 🤢 The cast was great, I really liked how it was shot and the vibe they created with the lighting and every music. Also appreciate how funny a lot of scenes were. “Don’t come in here with that energy” or Bear being like “we’re gonna make this work” while covered in blood. They struck a nice balance of comedic relief.
