Thief
Look, you wanna pinch me then pinch me... I'll be out in 5 minutes. If not, GET THE FUCK OFF MY CAR
I think the ending of Thief is pretty bleak, Frank got his revenge but lost his wife, kid, businesses and home in the process. You expect him to die on the first watch but he doesn’t he just walks off into nothing and i think thats how you do a good ending.
I also think the brief bits where we get to see some of Frank’s back story are some of the most important parts of the film. We see from when he goes to the adoption centre that he grew up in foster care and also from the picture collage he carries around where the kid’s faces are blurred, showing he didn’t have much of a childhood. Obviously thats why he's so quick to let go of everything he's tried to put together, not having attachment to anyone or any place. He only has peace and security for a brief moment before it all collapses around him, he simply can’t fit into society, when he tries to be normal with a normal family he doesn’t have agency over his own decisions anymore, ultimately causing him to be used by Leo. And of course as Frank is “Joe the boss” of his own body he can’t accept that.
Great film, great performances and so much style.
