Sinners
What I love about this movie is that it isn’t just one thing. A vampire movie set in 1930s Mississippi is already a cool and unique concept, but at its core it’s not really about that. Ryan Coogler made a movie about belonging, family, community, enduring love, freedom and the lack of it, equality, the importance of music, I could go on.
It dips into so many different genres, and it looks and sounds so fucking amazing while doing it. I love how essential music is to the movie, and Ludwig Goransson’s score feels like the blood that gives it even more life. Every piece elevates the scene it’s part of and I believe this is the best thing he’s ever written. I’d even go as far as saying it’s one of the best movie scores of all time.
You could also argue that this contains the best work to date from pretty much every person involved and it all comes together into a complete masterpiece of a film
