Gattaca
Watched on VHS in my parents’ living room, as Niccol intended.
A compelling crime drama, family drama, and romance, (with a splash of competitive swimming) all presented under the guise of dystopian sci-fi. Hawke plays an incredible Vincent, finding himself in the centre of Gattaca’s intertwining relationships.
Thurman’s character felt sadly underdeveloped, leaving Vincent’s relationship with Jerome as the more interesting focal point. The blurring line between Jerome’s self and Vincent living out his life was one of the most interesting aspects of the film.
