Eraserhead
One of the most impressive and insane debuts ever. I love Eraserhead, yet I almost equally love it so much as a piece of history. Lynch’s debut, the midnight movie, the budget, the release of it, the reaction and the status it holds today.
The ongoing score, the sound design is so good and historic. There are countless themes; it’s a piece of art that barely feels like a movie.
Parenthood, purpose, sexuality and industrialism. Do we have any control over our lives? There’s so much here, I almost feel silly trying to rationalize and describe how this movie makes me feel and think; and I think anyone saying “Eraserhead is about …” as if it’s concrete is missing out. Part of me feels silly even putting a star rating on this
Eraserhead is beautifully scary in more ways than one. It’s a film that really leaves it up to the viewer.
A historic gem, a classic, a beautiful, inspiring, freaky, terrifying movie.
Happy 80th David Lynch! Saw this as part of a double feature with Inland Empire prior at the Brattle! I didn’t have dinner so I had popcorn, peanut m&ms AND Reese’s pieces (also the 2 best movie theater candy. Buncha Crunch honorable mention)
