Midsommar
Oh my god, this movie's beautiful. The cinematography, the premise, the script, the coloring, it's all perfect. Florences Pughs acting in this is no joke, Oscar worthy. I cannot believe this movie didn't win any major awards.
20 minutes into the movie I was already very, very impressed by Florences acting. Her cries made my eyes open wide. They were incredibly realistic. You couldn't even tell she was acting. Throughout this movie, the way it builds up and plays out makes you really creeped out. I was genuinely scared for characters like I was there. The way Dani handled her emotions was perfect. incredibly realistic and refreshing from what I've already seen.
And you can really see how the cult lured them in slowly but surely. For split seconds I really thought they would make it out of there, then realized the type of movie I'm watching. The scene where the two old people jump off the cliff was, I can't even put it to words, it was spectacular. I also love how the director frames the cult members between Dani and Christian, basically showing their basically break up.
Another thing I've noticed in most of the reviews and in the movie in general is that the director really, really tries to make us focus on Dani and Christian and the stuff happening around them, that we don't really look to the side, behind them. All these little things sprinkled around that we've probably just missed.
my favorite scene was also probably the end, it's incredibly chilling, many people can interpret it in different ways, what I think is dani's just done, she doesn't care anymore, she's just accepting her fate, "I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to," that's a quote from the ending of donnie darko when he laughs, her situation's very different but very similar, cause of course to her the world basically just ended, her family's dead, she's now stuck in a cult, there's no out, even if there is, why, what is the point, she has no will to live, so she just submits to what her life will be now.
amazing movie.
