Squid Game
I really enjoyed this show; the intensity and thrill, the characters and the mystery… up until the ending.
This show managed to establish some truly unique ideas while developing characters that felt relatable and a story driven by a mystery that engages the viewer.
[Spoilers ahead]
The problem is that the ending was utterly disappointing and lackluster. The motivation of the game creators changed suddenly from them wanting to give people a second chance to them just being bored. The storyline of the cop looking for his brother ended up having no repercussions to the overall story which is a general problem with the series in that it didn’t feel as if there was much development in the world from the series start to its ending. And in the end there were so many loose ends and unanswered questions.
These aspects if delivered in the right way could have made the show perfect. There is a sense of pointlessness to all the flaws and if it had been developed into being a proper part of the film’s message it might have made for satisfying and bittersweet ending.
All in all I liked the series and if the ending had just been a bit more polished in its ideas and execution, it could have been great.
