Moonlight
Powerful, beautiful, intimate and real. The only words that come to mind when watching this movie. Every chapter was filled with brilliant performances moving the characters forward in a way that felt different from the last but still undoubtedly faithful to who they are at their core. Some of the best performances of all time are in this movie, the casting was phenomenal to make each chapter still make sense for each character. These feel like real people who all have their own individual struggles that drive them to make each decision throughout their story. The cinematography is outstanding and makes the intimate moments just that more special. Every aspect of this movie is done with such care and skill that it’s practically flawless. The themes of homophobia and self acceptance are emotional but show a real struggle that isn’t always depicted well on the big screen, the subtlety in which it handles such an internal conflict while still portraying it well and realistically is such a hard thing to do yet Moonlight did it masterfully. A masterpiece.
