Drive
Drive is one of my favourite films of all time. The film follows a Driver who sacrifices his humanity for heroics. He meets a wife, the son and a husband who he helps pull off a heist, but the heist ends up endangering anyone Driver is involved with. Driver is a hero who still ended up getting the ending he did not desire fore as he grew fond of the wife and the child, saying that they’re the “best thing that has ever happened” to him, knowing that he will never see them again in order to keep them safe and uninvolved from the situation. The film portrays the folktale of the Scorpion and the Frog, hence the jacket Driver is wearing. The sad truth is that he “stings” anyone he tries to help because it’s “in his nature”. Which leads up to the upsetting ending of the film.
Another aspect that stood out were the car action scenes, they were shot inside the car in order to make the film look more claustrophobic and reveal the pressure the Driver is facing. The soundtrack is great, A Real Hero by College is definitely the highlight of the soundtrack, as it shows Driver’s personality and how Irene (the wife) and Benicio (the son) sees Driver. All Driver wants is to keep the family safe, but the want becomes a need when Driver ends up endangering the family.
This film is such a brilliant watch even on rewatch
