Climax
Director’s Commentary with Gaspar Noé.
Honestly a pretty uninteresting director’s commentary, Gaspar sounded half asleep, or that he took an edible who knows. Still nice to hear him talk about one of my all-time favourite films in general I suppose! The most interesting part that I somehow never really picked up on is that following the death of a character there is a shot which spirals towards the open exit, the bright white light reflecting from the snow beaming in. The idea is that we are their soul heading towards the light, finally free from this nightmare.
Going to use this review to finally voice my favourite little fun fact that I like to tell people when watching this film, whether it was actually intentional or not. At the halfway point of the film where it shifts to being seemingly one shot as the LSD begins to kick in it is actually the amount of time that it would take for the LSD to kick in. You are quite literally along for the ride, trapped in their never ending descent into hell. Blah blah blah, you get the point. It’s so good. Cinema.
I also just did a presentation on this terrifying masterpiece. My lecturer and someone else in my class now want to go watch it, good luck. I love bringing my freaky little movies to class. You’re welcome everyone.
