Nowhere
Commentary with Gregg Araki, James Duval, Rachel True, Nathan Bexton, Jordan Ladd, Sarah Lassez, Guillermo Díaz, and Jaason Simmons.
Discovering Nowhere and the Teen Apocalypse Trilogy was a pivotal moment in my film journey. Thank you Gregg Araki. My favourite cinema-going experience may have been watching the trilogy and then the night that followed. We got the true Gregg Araki experience. The characters we came across. The events that unfolded. Finding ourselves at essentially the Australian version of Jujyfruit’s party. Smoking a joint with a stranger. Tweaking out on the way back with Xander. Best night of my life. Melbourne, Australia is like nowhere. Everybody who lives here is lost.
James Duval: *This is still one of the funnest shoots I’ve ever had. Making this movie with you all, and coming to set every day was a joy. It was an absolute and utter joy.
*
There will never be another Gregg Araki. So unapologetically personalised, completely his own. His DNA embedded into the film, the style, the music, the language. Every word must be said verbatim to the script cause otherwise it wouldn’t be a Gregg Araki movie. His works are a gift to cinema and filmmakers, forever inspiring.
Rachel True: Which I always used to say to filmmakers too, like it’s so inexpensive. Look what you did with just paint … But also so inexpensive in the end what you did with some of those sets. You didn’t spend a billion dollars, and that’s so inspiring to filmmakers.
Originally the final song was going to be an Oasis song and thank fuck The The gave them the green light because Love Is Stronger Than Death is so perfectly Nowhere.
Gregg Araki: So fuck Oasis is what I say. And thank you, Matt Johnson.
And thus concludes my viewings of the Teen Apocalypse Trilogy commentaries. One day I hope to actually own the 4k Criterion Boxset but for now Xander’s Criterion Channel will have to do.
HUNA EYE!
