Cure

This was my first film on the criterion channel. What a way to start! I’m a big fan of psychological thrillers and Japanese culture. Cure is a tour de force in psychological tension. It makes you question what is reality and fantasy. It’s one of the most scary non horror films. It’s a cat and mouse game of the highest proportions. It creates an unsettling atmosphere with sound, lighting and violent acts. It perfectly hones in on the main theme of hypnosis and surrealism. It’s in the silence that it produces paranoia. The subtleties of Cure are immaculate. Not just the image itself but the perception of the image is where the sweet spot is. This is how it’s done folks! Absolutely incredible!
