Yi Yi
i dont know what to say or how to feel about it but this is one of the realest and most beautiful things ever made. cried a bunch
edit: i went to sleep right after this and when i woke up and remembered certain things about this movie, i couldn’t stop crying. at almost 3 hours it took me a bit to get into its slow pacing but by the end im fully absorbed into the lives of these people dealing with change while trying to hold on to their current lives. as mundane as it can be, there are so many memorable characters and scenes that will probably stay with me forever and beat this shit out of me if I ever remember them again.
the fact that this was made in 2000 makes so much sense because it feels like it perfectly captures that era with its sound and visuals to the point im taken back to a time where i didn’t know any better, and life was bigger. with the variety of the main family’s lives, it’s really good in capturing so many different elements and stages of life.
i didn’t put a 5/5 for now cause there are still some parts that didn’t move me, and I don’t think that’s a fault of the director as much as it is my annoying obsession with wanting to see myself in movies all the time. I’m not gonna pretend I resonated with the whole thing, but I will definitely revisit this movie a lot because it’s worth so much more than a simple rating, and it feels like I’ll get something new out of it as i get older.
really one of the best things ever made
