she changed herself to be a prom queen but not to become prom queen herself; she isnt really her,  Jo won, so Joan never actually won :(   i loved this and thought it was so cool. the substance is one of my favorite films, so this reminded me of it. the set design is incredible, and extremely well thought out. for example, the collage in Joan’s room looks normal at first, just a bunch of cut outs of fashion and makeup icons, but they are all white, showcasing Joan’s desire to look like them. Again, Olivia’s house decorated with nothing but the color white and beige, and her dad sipping on plain milk is no coincidence. It showcases the plainness in their new lifestyle, the unoriginality, and the lack of culture, unlike Joans house, because her parents are proud of who they are.
