Happy Together
toxicity is not an uncommon theme in wong kar-wai’s films (take for example: days of being wild and 2046), but this is the first time he’s ever tackled the subject head-on through the toxic, interdependent relationship of lai yiu-fai and ho po-wing. the first hour is unlike any other wong kar-wai film - there is little poetic dialogue or moments of romance. instead, it is a nightmare of break ups, starting overs, jealousy, anger, and uncomfortable sensuality. this brash atmosphere is what makes the much more wkw-esque, poetic last 30 minutes so beautiful. wong kar-wai is truly the greatest director of all time. happy valentines day
