Fargo
Fargo feels like a dark comedy that tries and succeeds in making fun of "true story" movies. Although the movie mentions that it is based on a true story, it actually isn't. Some elements though are based on real stories. I actually really like this little lie the movie pulls, it sets the tone of the movie at the beginning, only to make you question the authenticity of the events as the story spirals out of control quickly.
What really sells the whole "true story" act is the acting and writing. All of the characters feel really human, as if they weren't in a film and they were just living their lives, which just happen to be rather insane. Of course we have to talk about Chief Marge, a police chief who is 7 months pregnant and has to enter dangerous territory. While at first we feel worried for her, the movie, twists the narrative by making her incredibly smart, calm and calculated while making all of the villains as incompetent and crazy as possible, flipping the script and making her in control of the whole debacle.
Fargo is a hilarious dark comedy that has a amazing writing and characters and... uh yeah, I really gosh darn loved it.
