The Lighthouse
At first I thought I was watching a movie about two lighthouse keepers going insane on an island, but as the movie reached its climax, I realised that it was much deeper. I think most people can draw the parallels between this movie and the myth of Prometheus, but I haven't seen as many people mention the story of The Garden of Eden and its parallels to this movie. The light from the lighthouse is supposed to be the forbidden fruit, while Tommy mirrors Eve. Thomas described Tommy as more feminine than other men, he is constantly tempted by the light, just as Eve was tempted by the fruit and lastly, when he finally does reach the light, he is plunged into the darkness at the bottom of the lighthouse, doomed to be eaten by seagulls, just as Eve was banished from Eden.
Just talking about this movie feels like opening a can of worms, there are so many interesting ways to perceive such a simple movie at first glance.
