First Man
This is it Buzz Aldrin, we are the First Men. —Neil Armstrong
I’ve seen credible reviewers give this film every rating in the book. A 1/10 a 5/10 and a 10/10. It’s unironically more divisive than Love on a Leash. And honestly, I don’t know where those poor ratings are coming from, I thought this movie was awesome. It’s such an immersive experience and I wish I caught it in the theater when it came out. The only thing reminding me that this was a movie was the stupid “FXM” logo in the corner that Hulu feels the need to put in every movie. The performances are incredible, of course, I mean you can’t expect anything less out of these actors. All of the scenes in space are very intense, and the moon landing scene is the best since Kubrick’s original interpretation. Sorry if I spoiled that event for you, but yes, they do successfully land on the moon.
My one and only issue is the cinematography, specifically when we’re in Neil Armstrong’s house. It’s shaky and more claustrophobic than Mr Meaty, like bro give me some space (pun intended). Overall, this movie rocks. It’s not as electric as Chazelle’s other movies like Whiplash or La La Land, but is probably my favorite biopic. Perhaps I’ve become lenient on giving good scores, I don’t know. Either way this is a fantastic film.
