The Night Of
this show is so methodical, patient, and investigative in its story telling. it treats its characters with such care and delicacy. each one fully fleshed out.
it is a horrifying meditation on our criminal justice system, loneliness and purpose. the scope of this show is not something you often see outside of the wire (and not just bc michael k williams is in it). it looks through the eyes of the cop, prosecutors, opportunist defense lawyers, parents, prison culture/atmosphere, different prisoners and it offers an in depth perspective on all of these.
turturro is sensational in this. his closing statement is an instant favor monologue of mine. never thought a man putting on shoes would make for such an emotional scene
riz ahmed is incredibly convincing. his transformation over the season is so well portrayed and your heart just cant help but break for his ending.
this show is so good im willing to overlook the ridiculously stupid chandra/naz plotline but it works to setup turturro for the end i guess. that is one of the very few reason for the 4.5 and not a 5
