Toolbox Murders
Your entire existence being swept away within seconds as you succumb to the destined dream that Hollywood promises—ingrained into its dilapidated architecture of withered histories being forgotten about or just becoming stories to tell newcomers of the area. Atmospheric; feeling too close to Los Angeles (the exterior shot as paranoid-driven Angela Bettis falls deeper into the apartment’s occultist history) while being far from civilization at the same time—it becomes hellishly grim within minutes as each step down the stairwell becomes more echoey and darkness surrounding all but the shine coming from Bettis’ flashlight. Almost perfect in every way—it encapsulates my taste in films just right.
