Train Dreams
but on that spring day… when as he misplaced all sense of up and down, he felt at last, connected to it all
will try to not be hyperbolic throughout this review but this is genuinely the most beautiful movie ive ever watched... i gave this movie like 2 sentences last time so i need to yap on this one, im sorry in advance.
few things about me: i love a good score, i love the art of cinematography, and i love scenic views ESPECIALLY if they involve massive trees/forests (i.e Sequoia National Park). this movie hit a nerve like few others have.
The story of Robert Grainier hits so hard bc you watch this and then think about the billions of people who have walked this earth and have come and gone like the wind. no real legacy, no heirs to carry on the name, etc etc. i try to avoid the existential crisis that would naturally follow the questions/thoughts this movie provokes, but jfc its hard. at least i have a digital footprint (including my movie reviews that maybe 3 people read).
its an absolute tragedy that this left the oscars with 0 wins. i love sinners and Autumn but i cannot deny the beauty of this movie. idk where i heard the quote but there was a director that said they try to make every fram in a movie picture-esque and i have found it rare to watch a movie and that hold up... until this. i paused this a few times and i promise you nearly every time it was such a cool picture.
all the leads were great and arn's character is one of the best adds to this film, yet the 5 mins of screen-time Kerry Condon gets are so good. i didint connect the dots but i loved her in F1 and on this watch i realized its her. just perfect.
i needed a sad but hopeful movie right now and knew this would deliver but i honestly think this might've been better the second time around. if you've made it this far in the review and are contemplating watching or rewatching this movie, please take your time with it and appreciate all the details. its slow, it may be boring, and it might not be your speed. but i promise its a beaut
