Scarface

I’ve been casually watching through De Palma’s films over the last few weeks, and I figured it was finally time to check out Scarface. It was pretty much exactly what I expected - a violent, gangster epic about the rise and fall of a man who bites off more than he can chew and lets his self-destructive tendencies destroy everything he’s built and everything he loves. It looks great (obviously, it’s De Palma), and Pacino is great (obviously, it’s Pacino)… but I just didn’t really like it that much. There’s nothing in here that hasn’t been done better in other movies.
