Audition
I had the unbelievable privilege to attend the Texas Theater showing with Eihi Shiina and Ryûhei Kitamura, which was also the North American debut of Shiina's short visual album and directorial debut. The entire experience was magnificent. Shiina was an absolute delight, and her passion for her work exudes with everything she says. The Visual Album itself was really cool, and while it was pretty obviously a directorial debut, it was beautiful and I'm very excited to see what they do next.
This was my first time seeing Audition in the theater, and MAN what an experience! It helps that about half the auditorium hadn't seen it before, so hearing their reactions absolutely added so much to the experience. I adore every aspect of this movie, and I will always champion this as one of the finest horror movies ever made. The dream sequence is maybe my favorite scene the entire genre has to offer, and the filmmaking is on point the entire time. I've talked ad nauseam about this movie, and I could absolutely go on longer, but this is absolutely a top 5 horror movie for me. If you're someone I know who hasn't seen this movie and would like to, PLEASE let me show it to you. I love watching people watch Audition almost as much as I love watching Audition.
