This man could hypnotize me and I would say thank you.
Jokes aside, what an insane movie. Everything here is done to the absolute best degree. The direction is absolutely masterful, the performances are immaculate, the script is obviously incredible, the set design had me so enthralled in every scene... I could go on and on, but this is such a well done film in every sense of the word.
It’s also the first movie I’ve seen in ages that employs hypnotism that doesn’t feel cheap. I mostly don’t like hypnotism as a plot element, as it feels really lazy and kind of a cop out. But this movie uses it so well, where you don’t know who’s been hypnotized or when, almost giving the same kind of paranoia as something like The Thing (which is an insane compliment.)
Despite all of the murders, the thing that got under my skin the most were the phone calls. Every time something insane would happen, it would cut to Takabe's phone ringing AND IT WOULD JUST BE ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE LIKE COME ON KUROSAWA YOU HAVE TO CHILL
