Sinners
Ryan Coogler… you are a fucking madman. The fact that Sinners is an original movie makes this film 100x more impressive.
Let’s start off with the score\music. Ludwig Goransson was in his absolute bag creating this world of Blues outside of Cooglers mind. This isn’t the duos only collab, but it definitely is their most versatile and heart jerker one. On the way home from my IMAX experience, the original score album was the tunes on the way home. Ludwig Goransson incorporated the cinematic emotion into the feet moving Blues, adding such sentiment to make Sinners grab you into its 1932 world.
Where do I start with the cast? Everyone poured their heart and soul into this. It’s so hard to single anyone out for their masterful performance from how AMAZING everyone was. But this was most likely Hailee Steinfield’s best performance. To add on, Miles Caton debuted his first acting performance in Sinners and some could argue it’s the best performance in the film. To think he spent months learning to play the guitar/blues and gave this beautiful act is absolutely mind blowing. Michael B Jordan was an amazing choice as lead, with his charisma and character helping make the plot as clear as possible. All the supporting cast were perfect at creating this immersive world, including Wunmi Mosaku, Omar Benson Miller, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell as the main villain.
Ryan Coogler incorporated many underlying themes into this masterpiece of a film, but the most obvious was music, specifically Blues. Coogler also made this film very historical and it’s clear once you watch. The specific scene during Act 2 of this film, which every viewer knows, was so powerful and immersive. To make it as a one shot take is freaking insane, and I can’t think of anyone to do that other than Ryan Coogler. He took so many risks with this film especially with blending horror into this and nailed it each time, especially with the vampires.
Sinners cinematography was simply powerful. Everything about this film was powerful. Even the dialogue. But Cooglers way of cinematography came with a message, especially at the end, adding sentiment to this film.
Sinners is the best movie of 2025 so far, and I find it hard for anything to beat that. Ludwig Goransson is coming for his 3rd Oscar for best score. Sinners will sweep awards if the academy decides to finally show respect to horror movies. I honestly want to say Sinners is a top 5-10 movie of this decade.
Thank you for this masterpiece, Ryan Coogler. I have no complaints.
