WALL·E
Ugh Wall-E I fricking love you man. This is peak Pixar and I say that knowing they have numerous other movies you could consider their best but this one just hits different. This is also peak visual storytelling, without a doubt this has got to be one of the best opening 30 minutes to a movie ever and there isn’t a single line of dialogue. We learn everything we know about WALL-E from just watching him go about his day and just seeing what he gets up to and it’s honestly just perfect. Going from the baron wasteland that earth has become to outer space is such a smart move because it introduces you with WALL-E who you immediately fall in love with because he is just the best and then eventually the plot kicks in and then your in space and you have no choice but to just sit back in awe because how goddanm beautiful this film is. This is animation working at its best, genuinely jaw dropping how good this looks. The romance between Wall-e and Eve just makes my heart full, I absolutely adore them together and it’s brilliantly handled in such a simple but effective way you always know exactly how they feel about each other and it’s just the kind of stuff that makes you smile. Again this is done with little to no dialogue, every robot has so much personality and emotion even though they only have like 2 words they can actually say lol. The humans are the weakest part but they don’t take away from the film or how invested I was in the characters so it doesn’t really bother me and the villain was effectively simple, this film didn’t really need a big dramatic villain he’s serviceable in a way that works for the story and tbh if we had a big dramatic villain it probably would’ve only taken away more time we got to spend with Eve and Wall-E, which to me is what makes this film so special. Loved the clear 2001: A Space Odyssey inspiration too. Also the environmental message is handled very well, love that side of it too. My favourite Pixar film ever. It does help that I sci-if is one of my favourite genres, but oh well lol. Masterpiece.
