Babylon
“and people dance in movies and people die in movies. and they're not really dead. it's fucking amazing. they're not really dead!”gonna be a long one whoops but i have some stuff to say about why i love this movie
i like this movie for a lot of reasons. i like this movie because it feels like a 2022 movie telling you what 1920s hollywood was like. i like the references im a sucker for references. i like that they’re real characters. they feel like characters but they feel real and that’s what i like.
i feel like i can relate to everybody in this movie, which is what i say at every movie because i’m 16. nellie’s ambition, manny’s infatuation, and jack’s struggle. i like movies that make me go “haha yeah just like me”
the score for this movie makes me crazy, i put it on for casual listening constantly. twitter let me know they lost the oscar to all quiet on the western front 6 times and i sobbed on my kitchen floor while my phone buzzed and taunted me. manny and nellie’s theme is my favourite
the scene showing the struggle to convert to talkies makes me giggle and feel the frustration. they ignore the sound guys death, in fact they ignore a LOT (most) of the deaths in this movie because hahaha! that’s how good old hollywood was. a satirical take on how it used to be.
i really like this movie for manny. i really relate to the way he sees and loves and feels about nellie. i can relate and empathize to what he does and how he acts and how no matter what she does to him he still does everything for her. i love nellie i love her passion to get what she wants, to be a star. i love jack and his silent suicide (i still hate brad pitt)
they get the shot with the sunset, they get the camera, they get that single tear. nellie walks out of the spotlight and into the dark. manny got to be on his film set. im saying a lot of nothing. maybe im just a sucker for movies about the movies.
