Hamnet
This is a terrible film
… in the best possible sense of the word.
Films often stir something deep inside me, but rarely does it show on the surface. With this one, though, I cried at least four times I think. There are depressive films that leave you staring blankly at a wall after the credits roll, feeling hollow and drained. And then there are films like this.
Here, you cry as if every last drop of emotion has been squeezed out of you, yet during those two hours you experience the full spectrum of feelings. You feel the film with every nerve, every string of your soul and body. And when you finally leave the cinema, you don’t feel empty - you feel alive.
I will forever remember this experience of watching Hamnet in a movie theater, surrounded by the quiet sound of sniffles coming from the rows behind me. A shared silence.
I love cinema.
I love movie theaters.
I am grateful that I can come into contact with something truly great.
