Aftersun
it has been 2 years since i last watched this film. my mom passed away 4 months after that.
She was the type of person who took tons of pictures, so i got to see different eras of her life. her smile never changed in each picture.
even though i don’t know who she really was apart from being mom, because of the stories people told me, pictures she took, helps me piece who she was as a friend, lover, and a daughter. it made me grieve the possibilities of the moments we could’ve had together if only she had more time.
aftersun encapsulates how it feels to grieve a parent, especially if you lost one from a young age—rewatching old video tapes to look for something you missed, because memory shifts overtime. the parent you remember and the person in the video can feel like two entirely different people.
