Perfect Blue
*“Pop idols don’t make money right metamorphosis huh?”
“The pop idol image is suffocating me
I’ll be in the light and you’ll be in shadows.”
“You’re tarnished now and filthy.”
“I’m not sure what to think anymore.”
“I don’t know anything about myself anymore .”
“We create the illusion in ourselves saying we only have one persona.”
“But maybe she is more like me than myself my other self that I’ve now buried deep inside my heart.”
“What if that other personality has acted out on its own.”
“What was yesterday?”
“Was that real?”
“Come on bay be more daring that’s it
Illusions can’t come to reality.”
“No, I’m the real thing.”*

What I LOVEEEEE ABOUT THIS FILM the heavy pressure of images MIRRORS your persona compared to what the world EXPECTS FROM YOU! All in one sandwich of a film. Mima who is an idol not even by her choice of having her cake and eating it to has to pick between acting and being an idol what her current persona is. She chooses acting and is happy with her choice but the villains is everyone else in this story she came to sing to Japan but they told her she couldn’t do both because her schedule and being an idol. Which is insane! There’s some lynch vibes here when Mima is about to get raped and murdered by the creepy stalker of her fan page after she kills him she gets up and she’s back on set with everyone clapping for her. That fucking scene gets to meeee. Her reality is so distorted by what everyone decided for her being stalked and harassed to multiple criticisms of her making transitions and risks in her career. Her agreeing to the rape scene, her doing a lewd to nude photoshoot that’s her making choices. The blowback was astronomical… I wouldn't blame her for experiencing derealization and depression and dissociations. It almost felt like her life didn’t even belong to her that everyone has a fixation on one person. Her coming of age story is brilliant she’s not sure of herself but she pushes through because she wants to act and transition in. Down to the website having a projection of her as one career choice being an idol and one entity. Her stalker, her manager being the very villain they were portraying in Mimas tv show she’s filming playing a girl with duo personalities killing and didn’t even realize it based on her multiple personality although it’s crazy how the fakeness of it comes to life, her manager truly believing she’s the real version of her, that she is her and she’s in the way of her transformation and truest form and self. The mirrors of it and alter versions of self makes it fragmented on reality and others realities of this film. It’s so visceral, I love she truly accepts herself in the end and confident on who she is and her choices. Perfect Blue remains Perfect. 🎀
