Heat
Incoming unsubstantiated, immeasurable and hyperbolic claim commonly seen on the internet but for my bearer bonds Val Kilmer gives the greatest supporting performance of all time. I don’t know if there is any breath left in the world for the way he fires a rifle but of course you have that. In addition to even the trivial stuff like the way he sits there or the way he looks at De Niro dead in the eyes or you have the way he lifts a 50 pound block of cash into a duffel bag. Completely embodied performance. I’ll just highlight two moments where Kilmer’s expression perfectly changes in split second— when walking out of the bank and when he looks up at Ashley Judd on the balcony. Actually remarkable things he’s doing here. The only other supporting performance of this caliber I can put my finger on is Donald Sutherland in JFK. I’ll also just point out, like JFK, HEAT is a triumph in editing, unlike JFK it’s actually underrated in its triumph.
