such an enthralling watch from start to finish. that might sound hard to believe, given that a majority of this film is just speaking, but it's true; there wasn't a moment of watching this where i wasn't completely, 100% engaged. diop handles such heavy & upsetting material in an incredibly beautiful way. she uses laurence's trial to tell a story even more important than a newsworthy murder. she tells one about the human condition and what it means to be a woman, and she tells it gracefully. (also, it's incredible to know that the inspiration for this film came from diop witnessing a trial of this exact nature. she has lived through this story in rama's shoes, and that makes the character's emotional arc even more impactful)
