Nosferatu
Robert Eggers traps the audience within the theatre. He forces you to succumb to the Count’s darkness. Every transition, camera movement or hold of frame is purposeful. Darker and darker as the film progresses. Like a spreading plague. The horror and physicality of it all. It frightens with its vision and imagery, a homage to the shadow. An eerie score waiting for its moment to take centre stage. A bleak stage play.
Lily-Rose Depp is phenomenal. A huge display of emotional depth and range. But Aaron Taylor-Johnson was the standout for me. So committed to capturing the essence of the time period. A thespian portrayal.
