Good Time
Somehow even more anxiety-inducing than Uncut Gems for me. Just watching Connie improvise his way through the whole movie, not knowing if/when/how he’ll get caught but I as a viewer felt like the walls were closing in on me. One of my new favourite Rob performances, and he’s about to go on a generational run between now and 2027.
To me I didn’t get that much about the backstory of the main characters directly but indirectly through visuals. Most of the scenes that involve Connie are shaky and suffocating closeups with quick cuts, while most of the scenes where he’s absent are still and quiet, highlighting how much of a bad influence Connie is on his brother and everyone around him. I need to do more research into the behind the scenes of this, uncut gems and Marty supreme because I really enjoy the visual storytelling in each of these Safdie films, and the grimy and grainy texture they add to the camera is so so good.
I need Connie’s orange jacket so bad bruh. Idk if I’m the only one who noticed this because I’m a diehard The Batman fan, but Connie’s jacket and grey hoodie fit in the beginning looks very similar to the one the drophead was wearing at the beginning of The Batman. I wish I could upload pictures to show you guys I KNOW WHAT I SAW😭
That kiss scene was veryyyyy questionable. Of course I know this is more than problematic within the context of the movie and speaks to Connie’s character, but I actually googled this and the actor who played Crystal was 17 when this movie was filmed🧍🏽
