Nightcrawler
So you're telling me Jake never won an Oscar for this performance??
I find it so unsettling how his only act of violence throughout the whole movie was in the opening scene, and that was done on purpose to reveal who Louis is, because the threat of violence was present for the rest of the runtime.
I really liked how pretty much every element of the film is intertwined with Louis' state of mind, and it wants you to resonate with him as the protagonist. For a movie of this genre, the score was oddly very hopeful and whimsical, especially in scenes where Louis is getting what he wants. The moment when he literally moves someone's body into frame so he can record, his speech to Nina about why he loves the news, which was obviously overrehearsed, and even at the end, when he engineers and records Rick's death. ALL these scenes have a triumphant score in the background.
Also, when Louis first gave his footage to KWLA, and Nina was giving him a blueprint for the kind of videos that sell, I legit thought the character was going to engineer all these killings just to record and sell off, becoming a serial killer just for the love of the game, and never getting caught. But hey, I'm no writer; my imagination just runs wild sometimes😭
