Hacksaw Ridge
"hey it's me, it's desmond. i'm gonna fix you up, alright? just keep breathing."
i'm not religious in any way myself and i find a lot of the criticism this movie gets surrounding its heavy reliance on christianity as ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT !!!!!!! while yes, desmond's motivations are religious, that is not the reason he is a good person. he asks god to help him save the men on the ridge, but does not do it because of god. desmond is not a conscientious objector because of god, that is simply his own moral code. desmond is a good person and he uses god as a way of proving that there is other good in this world besides himself, even when it does not seem like it. yes, his religion influences and characterizes him as it is a core part of his character, but the movie does not preach religion as a save-all. it simply says that religion can help you see the good in the world, not that it will save you or anything overly preachy like that.
also on the gore front: this is a war movie. if you have a problem with realistic portrayals of war injuries.... don't watch a war movie!
i now understand why ppl join the military instead of going to therapy.
