Drive
95/100
I have a hard time describing how much I love this movie. I could watch this back to back to back without ever getting tired of it. I just truly love everything from the casting to the soundtrack. From the visuals to the ending. Just absolutely everything.
What especially makes Drive unique, is how little dialogue there is. The characters aren't exclusively the main attraction here - yes I'd almost say the visuals and soundtrack play a bigger role. It feels so refreshing to watch this movie, as it's more of an experience than any other movie. It all just feels so fluent.
I could honestly praise so much about this movie - and I'll try to get through all of it. First of all, the visuals are absolutely amazing. This is such a beautiful and aesthetic movie, despite its huge amounts of action. Secondly, the soundtrack is just amazing to listen to. The retro vibes just go hand in hand with the visuals, only contributing more to this feeling of fluency the entire movie has. Finally I just want to praise the characters. Every single one is unique, intriguing and grounded in reality - though also exaggerated, which makes sure they're all interesting. It's honestly amazing to see them interact, and watch how the story connects everyone.
It's such a shame that Refn has never managed to make another masterpiece like this, but this truly is a masterpiece, and we're lucky that we have it.
