Yeah this hits like a truck tbh. It’s insane how well a sibling like bond can be captured in a 90 minutes span, but yeah it definitely captures a lot of the emotions. It is literally INSANE to me how much I relate to this with my older brother. Incredible movie, Culkin is sublime (and eisenberg almost as much so), so purposefully and respectfully written, genuinely so much I could talk about with this movie (and how much it relates to my own relationships 🙃, but will definitely leave it unsaid here for now), definitely gonna rewatch in the future cause would love to see again because of just how truly captivating the writing and relatability of it all. Could see this being one of my favorites in the future, just need some revisits.

I’m sad to be hating this but it just feels so soulless, not gonna spoil the movie but I just became more disappointed as the movie went on. Formulaic, bland, and clearly a cash grab (product placement, “family fun thrills” vibes).

When this movie clicks with you it is simultaneously heartbreaking and satisfying. Masterpiece, can’t believe I got to see this in theaters 9 or so years ago! P.S. Being able to see both this and close encounters with the third kind in theaters as a kid really elevated my love for sci fi, cause these sort of “encounter” movies rather than opting for a typical action blockbuster based off aliens (when done right) truly are often a more engaging experience (and much more satisfying experience imo), not to say there aren’t amazing sci fi action/thrillers ofc (talking about alien obvi  :)). TLDR: Alien movies that drift away from destruction and fear and touch more on the unknown are great :)

Love this movie, just very nostalgic for me and the most subtle of the jokes are the funniest. I actually really like that I get to watch all three endings and hear the “communism is a red herring” line 3 times :) (but socialist joke is my favorite tbh)  P.S. Tim Curry (that’s it, the movie would NOT be the same without him, also teetering on 5 stars for me will definitely rewatch again in the future and we will see…)
