Hard Truths
Contains probably the most emotionally powerful scene I have ever watched. Just an utterly ridiculous performance from Marianne Jean-Baptiste - an all-timer performance in my eyes. A beautiful, heart-breaking, hilarious, uncomfortable, and life-affirming film. I can’t begin to express just how special this film is. I have brought it down to a 4.5 but that’s more to do with how stingy I am with my 5s than it is about this film being any worse on rewatch. That one scene is also just uncontrollably impactful - soul-touching stuff. And so witnessing it for the first time, it felt impossible not to give it a 5. Mike Leigh is an absolute genius.
